This week’s athlete shout out: Irma Elias! Irma has be steadily training for a year and has made constant improvements through. A little shaky and a little skeptical at first, she has embraced the training and learned everything she can, sparing no effort in trying to get it just right. She has also gotten her family involved, being a lightning rod for fitness awesomeness in her circle of influence. She is a mainstay in the midday classes and can always be seen laughing, chatting everyone else up and, most of all, dialing in that laser focus to hit her reps just right. Excited to see what the end of Year 2 looks like!

Bad lifts happen. For some, it happens a lot. Heck in my earlier days of lifting, my coach would tell me at the end that he wouldn’t expect me to even make all of my training lifts in a given workout (if you’ve ever done heavy sets of waves, you know what I’m talking about). The truth of the matter is not whether or not all your lifts are perfect, but rather how you respond to them that matter. ⠀ To continue reading, visit http://teamsoultraining.com/seeing-the-forest-from-the-trees/ ⠀ ⠀ About the Author: With his first contest in 2002, Tony “Tuba” Blanksteen has been an active member of the weightlifting community for fourteen years. These photos show progressive squat points of performance issues. Our ideal foot position for the squat is straight ahead with 3 points of contact big toe, little toe and heel. We should see a nice arch as well. This should stay constant for the whole squat and the knees tracking over the outside toes. If the feet turn out and/or the arch collapses we lose our ability to effectively transfer force into the ground AND put ourselves at greater risk for injury. If you have a hard time squatting with those parameters prioritize your ankle mobility and you will see big changes! #intensitywithintegrity #liftupandliftheavy #crossfitvirginiabeach @mobilitywod @preparetoperform
The Open Starts Tomorrow!! — The first workout's big announcement (17.1) will be tonight at 8pm (games.crossfit.com). What happens the next 5 weeks - We will be doing the open workouts as the workout of the day (WOD) each Friday starting tomorrow. Usually, we run two heats so participants can judge each other. Before the workout starts, we will be going over the range of motion for each movement and what you will be doing when judging another person. If you didn't register for the Open, don't worry, you'll still get to do the workout but you won't have to worry about having a judge. Just have fun!! Registered but can't make it on a Friday? No worries, you can still do it during Open Gym hours (Saturday 12pm - 1:30pm) or Monday (10am - 12pm). You just need to coordinate with a friend so they can judge you. Haven't registered yet? What are you waiting for??? Join the fun and test your fitness!!! (Games.crossfit.com)
